About her connection

Our story

Her Connection Physiotherapy was created by Anna Lanyon in 2020. The goal was to build a women-only, boutique space in Woonona that focuses on pelvic health and other conditions that specifically affect women.

Her Connection is a warm and safe space where women can have a cup of tea, read a magazine and be given exceptional care – and ultimately walk away feeling better.

We are so much more than a clinic that just treats pelvic floors. At Her Connection, we specialise in the various conditions that are specific to women’s pelvic health. We have deep empathy for all of our patient’s stories – and appreciate the connection of emotional, physical and social factors when it comes to women’s health.

Our Approach

We understand that a women’s body is a complex connection of pelvic floor, musculoskeletal system, hormones, emotions and specific stages of life. At Her Connection, we listen to every patient’s unique story and assess them as a whole, to deliver a highly specialised treatment and management plan for them as an individual.

Together, our team blends years of experience in both musculoskeletal and pelvic health physiotherapy. Expect a whole body assessment where we will listen, connect your symptoms to your physical signs, emotions, hormones and musculoskeletal story, and create a plan for you.

This is what you can expect typically from your very first appointment at Her Connection Physiotherapy:

1. Share Your Story

Why are you here? What do you hope to know and understand after our consultation today? We will take a thorough background to help us understand and connect your physical symptoms with what we might find objectively. Often the timeline is important – so there will be lots of questions about not only women’s health stages of life, but also musculoskeletal injuries and hormone transitions.

2. Your Body Assessment

We have lots of assessment tools to help us figure out how to best help you. Your whole body will be assessed externally, and if there is a pelvic floor concern – an internal exam may be suggested.

We may also use Real Time Ultrasound to see deeper muscles in and around your pelvis.

3. Your Treatment

Education. We will make sure you understand your body. Understand your “why is this happening?” and “how are we going to make me feel better?” Treatment may also involve hands on treatment – soft tissue massage, mobilisations, dry needling and even work on an individualised exercise plan.

4. Create Your Plan

Where to from here? Our hope is for you to walk away knowing a path forward. This may involve a referral to a specialist, a home exercise plan or even continued (weekly, monthly or 6 monthly) physiotherapy management. Whatever it may be, we will create a clear plan to empower you to trust in your body.

Anna Lanyon

Pelvic Health & Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist

About Anna

I’m a proud mum to three beautiful children, and with my husband, we live in Thirroul. In 2021, I started Her Connection Physiotherapy following a move from Sydney to the Illawarra.

After graduating in 2007, I worked in Wollongong’s hospital system, with sports teams in London, and in a private musculoskeletal practice in Sydney. These experiences helped me develop a well-rounded understanding of physiotherapy, from the medical side to the sporting body, and reinforced how important it is to treat the whole person.

In 2015, I discovered the field of Women’s Health and was captivated by the profound impact physiotherapy can have on women’s health and well-being. Over the past decade, I have continued to be inspired by the resilience and strength of women’s bodies, while also recognizing the physical, hormonal and emotional challenges that many women face. I am passionate about helping women in our community gain a deeper understanding of their bodies—inside and out—and working collaboratively to find solutions to their health concerns.

What I love about Her Connection Physiotherapy is what we’ve built. We combine years of clinical experience with real-life experience, but what truly sets us apart is our natural empathy and honesty, which create the welcoming, supportive atmosphere that defines Her Connection.

Gen Fleeton

Pelvic Health and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist

About Gen

Better together is what I truly believe. Together, we can always do better, feel better, be better. I strive to do this through understanding, collaboration, team work, communication and a bit of fun along the way.

I have been fortunate to work in a range of settings with so many fantastic physiotherapists and health professionals. I have had extensive experience in treating chronic injuries as well as complex women’s pelvic health conditions.

I take a whole body and whole person approach.I know how overwhelming it can be living with a chronic condition, but I truly believe that movement is medicine. Pain, injury, chronic disease, incontinence, prolapse or fear of these can all be barriers to moving well and can limit the life you want to live. There is always something that can be done to help.

I am genuine in my approach to helping and caring for everyone I work with.
